Barbed wire consists of a strong wire with sharp edges or points arranged at regular intervals. It is widely used in Kenya for security purposes, boundary demarcation, and livestock containment. It has become one of the most common choices for fencing across the country, especially in rural and peri-urban areas. This is attributed to its cost-effectiveness, ease of installation, and effectiveness in deterring intruders.
Barbed wire is a highly effective and cost-effective security solution for a wide range of applications, from residential and commercial properties to agricultural and industrial sites. At Mabati Yetu, we provide high-quality barbed wire solutions to enhance the security of your property.
Galvanized fencing wire is a type of wire with sharp edges or points, with 2 running wires which are alternately twisted between the 4-point barbs. The high-carbon steel wires are every 10 cm provided with 4-point barbs.
It is supplied in 240m, 480m and 610m rolls and is primarily used for fencing.

Installing Barbed Wire: A Step-by-Step Guide
- Mark the area where the fence will be installed and choose post type and spacing. The main types of fencing posts are wood posts, steel posts and concrete posts. The posts are typically spaced from 8 to 10 feet.
- Use a post hole digger to dig holes for the posts, ensuring they are deep enough for stability (at least 1/3 of the post’s height should be underground). Place the posts in the holes fill the holes with compacted soil or concrete for added stability.
- Attach Barbed Wire and stretch barbed wire between posts. Use a wire stretcher or come-along to ensure the wire is tightly stretched.
- Secure the wire to each post using staples. Install subsequent strands at the desired spacing, typically 6 to 12 inches apart.
