Hollow Structural Sections (HSS)

Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) is one of the most popular types of structural steel. They are manufactured from cold-rolled steel and made into hollow sections. They are available in a variety of sizes and shapes for different applications such building columns, beams and frames. Some other applications of HSS are staircases, bridges, trusses, gates, platforms, storage facilities, guardrails, decking, building facades, roof purlins, protection panels, furniture, architectural designs and many more.

Types of Hollow Structural Sections

There are three main types of HSS which are:

  • Square Hollow Section (SHS)-Preferred choice for columns
  • Circular Hollow Section (CHS)
  • Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS)
